About 300 men, women and children take part in the Corn Dance. All of the men dancers are dressed in this costume, which is worn only on this occasion. The dance comprises numerous and complicated movements, and is very interesting and spectacular. Santo Domingo is the second largest of the Rio Grande pueblos and has a population of about 1,000.

During the Corn Dance at Santo Domingo, which is in reality a thanksgiving to the gods for good crops, there is always the group or chorus of old men who sing or chant the tribal songs of thanksgiving.
